Marienkirche (St. Mary's Church) Reutlingen
The Marienkirche in Reutlingen is one of the finest Gothic edifices in the whole of Baden-Württemberg and one of Reutlingen's main landmarks.
While its oldest parts date back to the 12th century, the present building was erected between 1247 and 1343. Inside, there's a Late Gothic Holy Sepulchre and the famous octangular, 15th-century baptismal font. The 71-metre-high west tower is surmounted by a shining, gilded angel dating from 1343. The Marienkirche was severely damaged in the town fire of 1726; of the interior fittings only the Late Gothic Holy Sepulchre and the font survived. Between 1893 and 1901 the church was restored in neo-Gothic style.
The Marienkirche has been a National Cultural Monument since 1988.
