Restaurant Fuggerei
The Fuggerei is the oldest surviving stone house in the town and fragments of Romanesque walls are still visible. Originally it was a social institution which provided for needy citizens. After a chequered past, it became a restaurant in 1980. Following a devastating fire, it was completely renovated and modernised in 1985. With its central location, the mighty Fuggerei dominates Schwäbisch Gmünd's cathedral square.
