WALA Garden of Medicinal Plants Bad Boll

A garden of medicinal plants on the heavy clay soil on the edge of the Swabian Alb? Farmers in Eckwälden in the late 1950s were somewhat incredulous when they heard that WALA was looking for a piece of land there in order to realise their new project. The marshy meadow acquired by Rudolf Hauschka immediately behind the construction site for the new company building has been cultivated by the gardeners ever since, using biodynamic methods.

After many years of intensive effort, the soil now has a fine, crumbly texture and is easy to work. Today, WALA's gardeners grow more than 150 different varieties of medicinal plants for the manufacture of WALA products on an area that now totals 4.5 hectares. The waterlily pond, stream, beehives, flowering meadows and a piece of woodland are home to dragonflies, toads and fire salamanders.
